Slice Of Life: Going Strapless In The Summer

The other day I went to a friend's Willy Wonka-themed birthday party. To dress for the occasion, I wanted something bright and colorful, but still breezy to contend with the heat.

I've been aching to wear this too-cute off-the-shoulder crop top from Asos for weeks, but none of my strapless bras were fitting me and the shirt the way I needed. Poor little lemons just staring at me in my closet...

It took me a while to find a good strapless bra, but now that I have one, I can't be stopped! The Fantasie Smoothing Strapless bra won out over a few other contenders for the amount of support and shaping. The larger cups mean there's no weird quad-boob action going on if it slips.

Speaking of slipping, this one held up nicely over the course of three or so hours. I didn't have to tug on it at all, despite carrying and picking things up (meaning bending over!).

The skirt is a silk thrift find that needed a new elastic. I only recently fixed it, and I am thrilled to have this punchy color in my midi skirt rotation. I love the way a silk skirt flows around you like a buttery wind.

I just tucked a bunch of hair into a roll and threw this little gold garland over it. It's got combs to keep it in place.

Top: Asos. It's on sale, ladies! Under $20!

Skirt: Thrifted green silk midi. Close approximation at Asos, light blue version with slit at Charlotte Russe, and a gingham version here.

Shoes: Bamboo. Similar versions at Asos and Amazon, but I really love the lucite heels on this version.

Bag: Thrifted straw clutch. How cute would this Kate Spade clutch look with this outfit? Though this printed version could give it a run for its money.

Hair Accessory: I found it at the Born Pretty store for less than $6!
